MABUL ATTACK: Esscom commander confirms Zakiah missing, believed to be abducted

KOTA KINABALU: Eastern Security Command (Esscom) commander Datuk Abd Rashid Harun confirmed that Constable Zakiah Aleip still missing, believed to have been abducted by gunmen that attacked Pulau Mabul, Semporna late last night.

He was commenting postings on the social media alleging that security forces found another body of a marine police near the scene.

In the shooting that occured about 11pm, a marine police identified as Corporal Abd Rajah Jamuan was killed while his colleague Constable Zakiah Aleip was reported missing.

It is believed that eight gunmen clad in black shirts and pants with military fatigues came in a boat from the direction of southern Philippines, before firing at security forces near the resort jetty.

According to a police source, the gunmen fired at least 10 random shots towards the jetty, patrol boat, dining hall, and reception office.

During the incident, Abd Rajah and Zakiah were having supper when they were ambushed by the suspects.
