MH17: Singapore PM expresses shocked, saddened over crash

SINGAPORE: Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has expressed shocked and is sad to hear about the crash of a Malaysian Airlines plane in Ukraine, near the Russian border.

In his Facebook posting, Lee said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the passengers and crew, and their families.”

Foreign media reported earlier that a Malaysian passenger Boeing 777 airliner with 295 people on board crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border.

However, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein was quoted as saying there was no confirmation yet that the plane was shot down.

Flight MH17 departed Amsterdam at 12.15pm (Amsterdam local time) and was estimated to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6.10 am (Malaysia local time) the next day. – BERNAMA
