Ambulance crashes into MPV, 1 dead, 3 injured

SERI ISKANDAR: An ambulance driver on his its way to pick up a patient has to be rerouted after it got involved in an accident with a MPV.

In the 5.35pm incident on Monday at Km12 Jalan Bota Kanan – Teluk Intan, the 24-year-old MPV driver Mohammad Hanif Mohmed Jelas died on the spot while the ambulance driver, Roslee Hussin, 46, sustained serious injuries.

Also injured were ambulance co-driver Rizam Marwan, 37, and Changkat Lada Health Clinic medical assistant Mohamad Faizal Mohamed, 22.

Perak Tengah district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Fakri Che Sulaiman said initial investigations showed Mohammad Hanif had lost control of his Citra and swerved into the ambulance path.

“The ambulance, which was on its way from Bota Kanan to Changkat Lada Health Clinic in Kampung Gajah, tried to swerve to the right to avoid the Citra,” he said.

“However, due to the close distance between both vehicles, they ended colliding head on,” he added.

Mohammad Hanif, of Taman Desa Mulia in Teluk Intan, died on the spot due to serious head injuries while Roslee had been admitted to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh for treatment.

The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

Meanwhile, Seri Iskandar Fire and Rescue Department chief Ahmad Rozarin Razak said the department received a distress call at 5.15pm.

“When we arrived, the MPV driver was pinned in his seat while the other victims had been removed from their ambulance by members of the public,” he said.
