GEORGE TOWN: PENANG showed that they are ahead of the other states in bowling development after coming out tops in the Piala Remaja Milo Ranking Masters recently.
Penang won two gold medals and one silver at the Ole-Ole Superbowl bowling centre in Kulim, Kedah to finish on top in the third leg of the competition.
Perak and Negri Sembilan shared the second spot with one gold each.
Kedah, who were the dominant force last year, managed to get only two silver and four bronze medals. Perlis took one silver to finish third.
Nur Amirah Farihah Azhlan, who had been playing second fiddle to her peers Megat Zaqrul Haiqal Megat Zairudin and Muhammad Hariz Adlan Azman, finally came out of their shadows in the boys dominated mixed Under-12 category.
Penang’s Muhammad Hariz Adlan, who was touted to fill the shoes of Asian Games gold medallist Adrian Ang, was off colour.
He knocked down only 993 pins to come in a miserable sixth.
The petite 12-year-old Nur Amirah posted lines of 170, 180, 228, 164, 145, 155 for a 1,042 total, and 173.7 average.
The Penangite's rival and teammate, Megat Zaqrul Haiqal knocked down 1,033 pins for a 172.2 average for second spot, while Kedah’s Luqman Daniel posted 147 for a 1,004 total to finish third.
