Norway on alert over terror threat

OSLO: Norway’s anti-terror police said today they have received information indicating Syrian extremists are planning a terrorist attack in the country, Xinhua news agency reported.

Anti-terror police agency PST chief Alana Bjoernland announced at a press conference that suspects associated with a terrorist organisation in Syria is planning to launch the attack in a few days’ time.

However, the PST is uncertain about where and when the attack will take place, the Norwegian news agency NTB said.

“There is a specific threat against Norway. I call on the public to remain extra vigilant,” Justice Minister Anders Anundsen said.

Anundsen said Prime Minister Erna Solberg and staff of the prime minister’s office are focusing on dealing with the threat and precautionary security measures have been taken.

Police force acting chief Vidar Refviksanden said police presence will be increased at places including border crossings, airports and train stations.
