Nur Ayuni gives a shot of morale

MORALE in the Malaysian shooting camp is high now that Nur Ayuni Farahana Abdul Halim can compete in the Commonwealth Games.

The shooters begin their campaign today and team manager Datuk Musa Omar said they are raring to go after the organisers accepted Malaysia's appeal to have Nur Ayuni reinstated after her luggage, which went missing en route to the Games, went missing.

“We are thankful to the organisers for accepting our appeal and the national shooters have been boosted by the decision," said Musa yesterday when contacted in Dundee, where shooting will be held.

Nur Ayuni, partnering Nur Suryani Taibi, gunned down the 10m air rifle pairs gold at the 2010 New Delhi Games.

She was devastated when her luggage failed to arrive as her shooting jacket was inside. Competition rules require shooters to wear the jacket.

"Thankfully, we asked her to continue training despite the missing jacket. We had also replaced her with Muslifah Zulkifli (10m air rifle event) and Nur Suryani Taibi for the 50m prone.

“She trained using a borrowed jacket and now that her own is in her possession, Nur Ayuni is ecstatic and ready to go.

“The other shooters are also overjoyed with Nur Ayuni's reinstatement and this is good news for us in the bid to win medals.”

Malaysia’s shooting campaign begins with the women’s 10m air pistol where Joseline Cheah and Wahidah Ismail will see action. Also in action today are Mohd Hadafi Jaafar and and Muhd Nasir Khan (men's 10m air rifle) and Teh Chee Fei and Joseph Lee in the skeet.

Nur Ayuni will be in action in the 10m air rifle tomorrow.
