Ministers cancel Hari Raya open houses

KUALA LUMPUR: The Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house of the cabinet has been cancelled out of respect to those who died in the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash.

It was scheduled to be held at
Seri Perdana Complex, Putra-
jaya.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the cabinet agreed with the decision in a meeting yesterday.

The cabinet also agreed to cancel the 2014 Malaysia Aidilfitri open house in Rembau, Negri Sembilan.

According to the statement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and ministers would seek an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on the morning of Syawal 1 before Hari Raya prayers at the National Mosque.

Even though the nation was saddened by this tragedy, Muslims were still obliged to celebrate Hari Raya after observing the fast during Ramdan, the statement said.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s open house on Tuesday at the Sri Pekembar Complex in Pagoh, Johor, has been postponed. Bernama
