Takaful firms may expedite MH17 claims payment

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) member companies are considering waiving the standard claims requirement to speed up payments once the beneficiaries have been confirmed.

“The association understands that Takaful certificates have exclusion cause, but the affected family members may want to contact MTA member companies directly if special circumstances are given to MAS flight MH17,” it said in a statement last Friday.

MTA member companies’ exposure to the tragedy is still undetermined at present but a number of those on board MH17 were Takaful certificate holders.

“With deep sorrow, we express our profound condolence and deepest sympathy to the families and friends of all passengers and crew of Flight MH17.

“This is a very tragic situation and many innocent lives were gone in this tragedy,” it said.

The affected family members may contact MTA at 03-2031 8160, or email mtasecretariat@malaysiantakaful.com.my for coverage and claims process details.

Flight MH17 was flying from Amsterdam to here when it went down in Donetsk, Ukraine, near the Russian border on July 17.

The Boeing 777-200 carrying 298 people — 283 passengers and 15 crew members — was believed to have been shot down. Bernama
