MACC nabs father and son over forged payment claims involving cooking oil subsidy

ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a father and son duo suspected of using payment claim documents with fabricated details.

The documents, alleged to contain falsified details, were intended to supply subsidised cooking oil in Kedah, Perlis and Penang, despite the supplies not being delivered.

According to MACC sources, the first suspect, in his fifties, is believed to have committed the acts alongside his son, who is in his twenties.

"They were detained between 10am and 7:30pm yesterday when they were asked to appear to record a statement at the state MACC office.

"Both individuals are suspected of using their company's licence to make false claims for cooking oil subsidies for one-kilogramme packets from a ministry between June and July 2020.

"These claims contained false details to supply cooking oil to retail premises and wholesalers in Kedah, Perlis and Penang," said the source.

State MACC director, Ahmad Nizam Ismail confirmed the arrests and said that the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

He added that both suspects were released on bail after their statements were recorded.
