Mayor: No application to build office towers

PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya mayor Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad said the city council had not received any applications to build office towers on the site of the A&W drive-thru restaurant, here.

Alinah said this recently at a council full-board meeting.

Streets had reported that KUB Malaysia Bhd, the franchise holder of A&W restaurants in the country, would demolish the outlet and build office towers in its place.

On another issue, Alinah denied that the Complex C multi-level carpark in PJ New Town was a white elephant.

"The four-storey car park is always full, except for the top two floors. I have something planned for it. I will announce the plans to the media later," she said.

Last year, there were reports that the carpark would be demolished to make way for the PJ Square.

Alinah also touched on the development of car parks at LRT stations in PJ.

"The council has identified locations and plans to build car parks near LRT stations in the council's Park n Ride project," she said.

She said the LRT stations included Asia Jaya, Taman Paramount, Taman Bahagia and Kelana Jaya.

"We completed the car park at the Asia Jaya LRT station on June 20. There are 595 parking bays and 12 parking bays for the disabled," she said, adding that the car park had already been opened to the public.

She said construction work on cark parks at the Taman Paramount and Taman Bahagia LRT stations would begin in October.

"Both car parks are expected to be completed next April. Work on the car park at the Kelana Jaya LRT station will be carried out by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd."

Alinah also expressed concern over the sharp rise in the number of dengue cases in PJ.

"In PJ, there are about 20 dengue hotspots and 561 cases," she said.

She urged residents to conduct checks for mosquito breeding grounds in the compounds of their homes.

"We found that most of the Aedes breeding grounds are in house compounds," she said, adding that the city council's environmental health department would step up efforts to get rid of potential mosquito breeding grounds. By Seri Nor Nadiah Koris
