Group demonstrates art of living well

SUNGAI PETANI: A freak thunderstorm in the morning failed to daunt a group of people out to do themselves and the community some good in Taman Jubli Perak.

The participants of a one-week course on how to instil happiness in oneself and in others, the group started the morning with yoga and meditation. This was to demonstrate the importance of taking care of oneself.

“Only by taking care of our mind and body are we then able to help and bring cheer to others,” said course coordinator Sharon Khor Guat Leng.

The event, which started at 7.30am, drew curious onlookers who stopped to stare at the strange actions of the group at their version of fun yoga, an exercise in which the participants mimicked the movements and sounds of jungle animals.

“It is important for us to relax and be ourselves and events such as this help us connect with nature and with one another at the same time. We are comfortable and less self-conscious interacting with other people,” said assistant course coordinator Fion Ong Ah Keok.

The group then proceeded to clean the park and pick up rubbish in its lake and garden areas.
