HANSEL And Gretel, the timeless fairy tale about a brave brother and sister who take on a ruthless witch, gets star treatment courtesy of the award-winning Dama Orchestra from today until Sunday.
Hansel And Gretel — The Musical is an adaptation of the 19th Century Christmas opera created by German composer Engelbert Humperdinck based on the story of the same name by the Grimm brothers. It stars the SPB-Dama Young Artistes.
Hansel and Gretel are siblings from a poor family who sell brooms for a living. They are chased away from home by their heartless stepmother for not completing their household chores, and they are soon lost in the woods. While trying to find their way out of the forest, they come across a candy house owned by a witch. Entrapped in the house, the brother and sister use their wits to thwart the witch’s attempt to make a meal out of them, and also save all the other children who have fallen under her spell.
Supporting this musical production is an award-winning team comprising Pun Kai Loon (artistic director), Melissa Teoh (director), Wong Kit Yaw (choreographer) and Dominique Devorsine (costume designer).
The stars are Phoebe Len, Yau Yen Hui, Gabriel Tham, Angeline Ang, Andrea Tham, Li Jun Jie, Emily Low, Joan Chia, Audrey Fung, Carmen Liao, Bryan Loo, Siobhan Ng, Teo Kgia Loong and Jolene Wong. Their vocal coach is Rachel Tan, while Sandra Sodhy is their English language coach.
