KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy traffic congestion is reported on the North-South Expressway (NSE) as people make their way back to their hometowns for the weekend and Christmas celebrations on Monday.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) posted updates on the X platform, indicating a continuous increase in vehicle numbers on various lanes of the expressway until 1pm today.
In the northbound direction of the highway, traffic is reported to be slow from Rawang Selatan to Bukit Tagar; from Slim River to Sungkai, including the rest and recreation areas (R&R) in Tapah; from Ipoh Utara to Sungai Perak; from Kuala Kangsar to Bukit Berapit; from Juru Auto City to Perai, and from Permatang Pauh to Sungai Dua Toll Plaza.
Slow-moving traffic is also observed from Sungai Besi Toll Plaza to the city centre, Bukit Gambir to Jasin, Senai to Sedenak, and Pandan to Dato' Onn.
In the southbound direction, traffic is experiencing delays from Bukit Tagar to Bukit Beruntung, Gopeng to Gua Tempurung, and Permatang Pauh to Perai.
Delays are also recorded from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to Kajang, Bangi to R&R Seremban, Bandar Ainsdale to Senawang, R&R Ayer Keroh to Ayer Keroh, Jasin to Tangkak, and Kempas to Dato' Onn.
Several accidents have been reported on the highway, including one at KM58 heading north from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam, causing traffic to slow down at the location.
Another accident is reported at KM284.3 heading south from Putra Mahkota to Nilai, with the left lane obstructed, leading to slow traffic.
Additionally, it was reported that a trailer broke down at KM264 heading north from Ipoh Utara to Terowong Menora, blocking the left lane and causing slow traffic in the area.
