Pas suggesting Azmin alongside Azizah for MB post shows firm stand

SHAH ALAM: Pas' decision to file PKR's Selangor head Azmin Ali as another candidate alongside Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is seen as a testament that the Islamist party did not bow down to the demands of Pakatan's de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Former political secretary to Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Faekah Husin said Pas has complied to all the initial agreement between the party and Pakatan in Selangor except for the candidacy of Wan Azizah.

"Pas is an Islamist party that has shown dignity in its action. The meeting concluded that Pas will not break any of the agreements made with Pakatan and honour the understanding between each parties in the coalition.

"It did not push for a candidate from its own party despite having a bigger majority than PKR. At the same time it did not follow PKR's decision blindly and nominate a candidate that Pas believes to be suitable, which is Azmin," she told the New Straits Times.

While Khalid earlier today said he openly accept the decision made by Pas during its central committee meeting this morning and would request for an audience with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to discuss on his status as the menteri besar of the state.
