MH17: Mosques nationwide to perform prayers mourning tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: All mosques nationwide will be performing solat jenazah hadir (prayers for the dead) and solat jenazah ghaib (funeral prayers in the absence of the remains of the deceased) simultaneously on the national mourning day tomorrow.

  Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the solat jenazah would be done as soon as Friday prayers end after all the 20 remains being brought back to home ground receive their final respects by the country.

  "Solat jenazah hadir will only be performed only by mosques that will be receiving and burying the remains. For the remains that will be sent to different states, the prayers will be held according to their respective state and district level," he said in a statement today.

  "All other mosques are asked to do a solat jenazah ghaib followed by a tahlil prayer as soon as they are done with the Friday prayers," he said adding that a national level solat jenazah ghaib would also be held at Putra Mosque .

  Jamil said the department had provided special texts to be read out by all mosques during the Friday Khutbah.

  Jamil said Jakim together with the armed forces Religious Corpshad washed, shrouded and prayed for the 11 Muslim victims of the MH17 tragedy in Amsterdam.
