4 charged with rape, robbery

BUTTERWORTH: Four youths were hauled to court yesterday to face charges of gang robbing, raping and molesting a female Chinese national and gang robbing her partner earlier this month.

Wan Noorsaipul Abdullah, Muhammad Fuzairi Azmi, both 23, Mohamad Kamal Masiran, 25, and Mohamad Azrul Azlan Mohamad, 19, were charged at a Sessions Court here with gang robbing the 21-year-old woman of her Gucci handbag, CK watch, RM1,000 and US$1,000, a gold chain, a gold bracelet, an iPhone 5 and a camera at the Penang Bridge rest stop at 3.30am on Aug 3.

Azrul Azlan and Fuzairi were charged separately in two Sessions Courts with raping the woman in nearby Sungai Lokan between 3.30am and 7.07am on the same day.

The four were also accused of voluntarily causing hurt while gang robbing Tan Chin Meng, 46, of RM1,000, his smartphone and several automated teller machine cards, at the Penang Bridge rest stop about 3.30am on the same day.

In a magistrate’s court, Wan Noorsaipul was charged with using criminal force with intent to outrage the modesty of the 21-year-old at Sungai Lokan industrial area between 3.30am and 7.07am on the same day.

The same court also saw Fuzairi charged with assisting in the concealment of a stolen iPhone 5 belonging to the Chinese woman in Jalan Sungai Puyu, Butterworth, on Aug 11.

All four claimed trial to their charges before judges Julie Lack Abdullah and Roslan Hamid, as well as magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Abdul Wahab.

In Bukit Mertajam, Wan Noorsaipul claimed trial before magistrate Nurzafirah Mohamed Ali to assisting in the concealment of a stolen gold chain and bracelet belonging to the 21-year-old in a pawnshop at 2.20pm, on Aug 11.

All cases in the Butterworth courts will be re-mentioned on Sept 23, while Wan Noorsaipul’s case in Bukit Mertajam will be mentioned on Sept 24. All four have been granted a total bail of RM108,000 in one surety.
