MH17: Malaysians unite as they mourn for victims

KUALA LUMPUR: The nation came to a standstill at 10.54am as Malaysians observed a one-minute silence in honour of MH17 victims.

The moment came just after the 20th coffin was carried into a hearse at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

About 1,000 people, led by Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Permaisuri Agong and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were at the Bunga Raya Complex to witness the arrival of the remains of victims.

Many were in tears as soon as the door to the plane opened after it touched down at 9.45am.

A group of MAS crew in full uniform were with the next of kin and family members as a show of solidarity and support for their fallen colleagues.

In other parts of the country, Malaysians unite as they observed the one-minute silence. Taking the cue from announcements made over radio and television, everyone stood in unison.
