BUKIT MERTAJAM: A man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here yesterday to showing a lewd gesture to a policeman last Wednesday.
M. Magendran, 25, was accused of committing the offence with the intent of villifying the policeman in front of the Tunku Bainun Teachers Training Institute in Jalan Mengkuang, central Seberang Perai, about 11.45am on Aug 20.
The offence, under Section 509 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum five years’ jail, fine or both.
Magistrate Nurzafirah Mohamed Ali granted a bail of RM4,000 in one surety and fixed Sept 23 for mention. The accused was unrepresented. Deputy public prosecutor Kamaliza Md Zain prosecuted.
