New centre for dialysis patients

KANGAR: TUANKU Fauziah Hospital will soon have another haemodialysis centre to cater to the growing number of kidney patients in the state.

The Perlis State Islamic Religious Affairs and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) has allocated RM2.5 million for the construction of the centre on a plot of land provided by the hospital near its Royal Ward building. The centre will have 30 dialysis machines, consultation rooms and waiting rooms.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also MAIPs president, said he hoped that the facility would cut down long wait times and provide quality treatment.

“An endowment fund was also launched to give individuals and companies the opportunity to contribute to the construction of the centre.

The corporate sector is encouraged to contribute dialysis machines, equipment and medicine.

““As MAIPs president, I would like to call on all well-wishers to support and aid those in need,”” he said.

Also present were Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

Hospital director Datuk Dr Ahmad Nordin Mohd Jais said statistics showed that there were at least 2,000 patients suffering from acute kidney failure in the state.

He said the hospital could only provide treatment to 120 patients daily because it had 30 dialysis machines.
