CEO and director jailed for cheating involving RM150k

KUALA LUMPUR: A retail network firm chief executive officer and its director were each jailed two years and 20 months for cheating a sales manager out of RM150,000.

Mohd Syawaludin Siran, 38, and Rosinah Ahad, 26, ‎both of Kopais Konsortium (M) Sdn Bhd, were convicted by the Sessions Court today of cheating Noorzita Baharudin, 48. Mohd Syawaludin was also sentenced to two strokes of rotan.

The duo had‎ induced the victim to bank in three cheques totalling RM150,000 into Kopais' bank account after they convinced her they would sell her a business plan for a 24-hour Station Rakyat convenience store, located at Plaza Usahawan Crystal Ville, Taman Danau Kota, Setapak.

The offence took place at Jalan Wangsa Delima 1A, KLSC 3, Wangsa Maju here, around 11am on Jan 7, last year. The duo were arrested on Sept 5 the same year and charged four days later.

Norsharidah ordered the duo's jail term to begin today. However she granted them stay of execution pending appeal and ordered each of their bail be increased to RM15,000 with one surety. They were previously out on RM10,000 bail.
