Duty bound to make MAS a success

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malay Businessmen and Industrialist Association of Malaysia (Perdasma) has backed the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) recovery plan.

It hopes that the strategies executed will bring back the national carrier to its glory.

Perdasma vice-president Datuk Naim Mohamad said the association was pleased that a solid recovery plan is in placed to revive the national carrier.

However, the recovery plan will not be successful without a complete analysis of the present Aviation Policies, he said in a statement today.

“The setting up of the Aviation Commission will be a right move to regulate and develop the aviation sector in line with international best practices which is already practiced by Australia, the United Kingdom and The United States of America,” Naim said.

He said the proposed Aviation Commission can look into productive planning of routes where flights availability in serving the routes are priority rather than serving competitive air travel options.

He said airlines should adhere to the regulations whether low cost or otherwise.

“Yes, everyone can travel and airlines should be able to serve travelers without duplicating resources and being redundant. Unhealthy competition can be avoided,” he explained.

Naim said it is also comforting to note that the welfare of the workforce will be utmost priority and that the livelihoods of the staff will be taken care of whether they continue or will be retrained and retrenched.
