Raja Permaisuri Agong: Bringing up children now is more difficult

KUALA LUMPUR: Bringing up children these days is more difficult because of the easy access of information obtained from fast technology and other influences from overseas, said the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.

It would not be the same as before as foreign culture and influences were eroding Eastern cultures which were known for manners and character.

As such, parents should be prepared for the challenge and aware of the changes in their children so that they could build a happy family.

“Parents should not use their jobs and busy lives as excuses to ignore their children.

“We have to be excellent parents and good examples to the children, regardless of religion,” she said at the Keluarga Mithali (Exemplary Family Award) 2014, part of the National Dakwah Programme organised by the Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) here today.

Also present were Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, and YADIM Head, Senator Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

At the ceremony, the family of Karim Ashiri, 79, and Che Nap Mokhtar, 77, were accorded winner of the Keluarga Mithali 2014 award.

Among the prizes they took home were RM25,000 in cash and an umrah package for two.

“My advice to the present generation of young families is never to give up, no matter how difficult it gets. What is important is that you and the children are close to religion,” Karim Ashiri, a padi planter from Nibong Tebal, Penang, told reporters when met after the ceremony.– BERNAMA
