Be faithful to govt of the day, civil servants told

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has reminded civil servants to remain faithful to the government of the day and to air their grievances through the proper channels.

Speaking to members of the Administrative and Diplomatic Service (PTD) here yesterday, Najib called on civil servants to remain steadfast in their duties and refrain from undermining the government’s authority.

“We must be loyal and support the government, which has received the people’s mandate to serve the country. That is the basic principle for all civil servants.

“Of course, this does not mean practising blind loyalty. If you want to air your grouses, do so through the proper channels, instead of taking your grievances to Twitter or blogs,” he said when officiating at the “MY story: Transforming the Nation” exhibition, organised by PTD, at Galeri Petronas in Suria KLCC shopping centre.

Listing the attributes of good and effective civil servants, Najib said dedication, competency and integrity were the cornerstones of a successful government.

“Good civil servants do things that are extraordinary and go beyond the call of duty. They are willing to go the extra mile to perform their duties. Things are different now, compared with the days of my father’s (Tun Abdul Razak Hussein) administration.”
