Sandro reunited with Redknapp at QPR

LONDON: Queens Park Rangers announced on Monday that they have signed Brazil international holding midfielder Sandro from London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on a three-year deal.

QPR did not disclose the transfer fee for the 25-year-old, but British media reports put it at around £10 million (US$16.6 million).

The move reunites Sandro with QPR manager Harry Redknapp, who brought him to England from Brazilian side Internacional four years ago during his time in charge at Tottenham.

“Sandro’s a proper footballer and a top-class professional – he’s an absolutely fantastic signing for us. I couldn’t be more pleased,” Redknapp told the QPR website.

“He brings energy, aggression, power and quality. They call him the Beast. He’s not only a top-quality footballer, but a fantastic boy as well. He’ll lead by example for us.”

Sandro, who has been capped 17 times by Brazil, said: “I like new challenges and this is one I’m really looking forward to. Working with Harry again, who I share a great relationship with, is very special to me.”

QPR also announced a loan move for Dynamo Kiev midfielder Niko Kranjcar – the fourth time the Croatia international has been signed by Redknapp.

Sandro and Kranjcar are QPR’s ninth and 10th close-season signings after Rio Ferdinand, Steven Caulker, Jordon Mutch, Leroy Fer, Jack Robinson, Alex McCarthy, Mauricio Isla and Eduardo Vargas.--AFP
