Donated items for the needy

KUALA LUMPUR: THREE hundred and sixty charity homes and deserving individuals will benefit from the RM1,693,986 worth of goods donated in this year’s 7-Eleven Malaysia’s (7-Eleven) Semurni Kasih Charity collection programme which was carried out between June 30 and Aug 3.

More than 1,600 stores of the largest convenience store in the country took part in the charity programme to enable members of the public to donate essential food and non-food items to charity homes and the underprivileged.

7-Eleven senior operations manager Sabry Mohd Fauzi recently handed over some of items to 65 representatives of charity homes and single mothers’ associations at a hotel here.

He said the programme is one of the ways 7-Eleven pays back the community that has given its support over the years.

Similar handover ceremonies and charity lunches or dinners will be held in other states to hand over the item to the charitable homes.

Among the recipients were the Rumah Perlindungan Nur Kasih, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim dan Miskin Baitu Saidati Khadijah, Rumah Perlindungan Anak-Anak Yatim Nasuha and Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Cheras.

The recipients were treated to a high-tea spread at the hotel.

Semurni Kasih Charity Collection programme has given out some RM6 million worth of goods since it was first introduced four years ago.
