Final journey for Capt Eugene

SEREMBAN: The ashes of MH17 pilot Captain Eugene Choo Jin Leong arrived at his family's house in Sri Carcosa, Seremban 2 here about 10.15am today.

About 100 family members, relatives and friends of the Malaysia Airlines pilot had already waited at the house for Eugene's ashes to arrive from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Upon arrival, about 20 of Eugene's colleagues, who donned their full flight uniform, lined up at the entrance to honour the victim, who perished in the July 17 incident at age 45.

The urn containing Eugene's ashes was then placed on an altar, before his sons - Melvic Choo, 13, and Scott Choo, 10, performed a prayer led by four Buddhist monks.

Family spokeman Jacob Lim, 55, said Eugene's wife Ivy Loi, 42, and her children are very sad.

He said the ashes will be kept at the house for a three-day wake services, before it is brought to his final resting place at the Xiao En Memorial Centre in Nilai, near here, on Thursday.

A colleague, Captain Norazlan Mat Noh told reporters that Eugene's death was a big loss to MAS.

He said the victim was a very dedicated pilot, who had served the company since they got their wings in 1990.
