Lumut helicopter crash: Bodies of eight victims make journey to final resting places

IPOH: A convoy of eight hearses carrying the victims of the Lumut helicopter crash, was seen leaving the premises of Kem Gua Permai here.

The convoy left the 23rd Royal Malay Regiment Battalion (23 RAMD) on Jalan Tambun, here, around 6pm today after the funeral prayers.

The arrival of the bodies of eight Muslim victims at 4.55pm, accompanied by several other military vehicles, was for funeral prayers at the site before being seen leaving separately to be taken home to their respective villages for burial.

Initially, the convoy of hearses was seen entering the Kem Gua Permai gate, but all the hearses were seen exiting from the Kem Syed Putra gate, 23 RAMD, here.

It is understood that the families of the eight victims were allowed to enter to receive the bodies at the camp after being brought from the Forensic Department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.

Earlier, all 10 bodies of the accident victims were transported from the Forensic Department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) using Royal Malaysian Navy and Royal Malaysian Air Force vans at 4.35pm.

The eight Ibodies were scheduled to be taken to the 23rd Royal Malay Regiment Battalion (RAMD) Camp, near Jalan Tambun, here, for funeral prayers.

The eight victims are Squadron 502 Commanding Officer, Commander Muhamad Amir Mohamad; Squadron 503 Commanding Officer, Commander Muhammad Firdaus Ramli; Warant Officer Mohd Shahrizan Mohd Termizi; and Warrant Officer Nurfarahimi Mohd Suady.

Also, brought there were Warant Officer Muhammad Faisol Tamadun; Petty Officer Nor Rahiza Anuar; Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Amirulfaris Mohamad Marzukhi; and Lieutenant Commander Wan Rezaudeen Kamal Wan Zainal Abidin.

However, the bodies of the two non-muslim victims were immediately taken home after departing from the Forensic Department of HRPB.

The late Lieutenant T. Sivasutan's body was taken by the Navy to his family residence in Sitiawan, Perak, while the late Chief Petty Officer Joanna Felicia Rohna's body was flown back to Serian, Sarawak, using a TUDM C-130 aircraft for burial.
