Merdeka babies get birthday surprise

IPOH: TWELVE Merdeka babies received a surprise when they were admitted into the Lost World of Tambun theme park for free on Aug 31.

Danish Yusri, 18, was among the lucky dozen to be informed that they could enter the theme park for free.

Danish, a pre-university student at International Islamic University, said he was told the good news when he produced his identity card at the ticketing counter.

“It is the first time I have received such a birthday gift and it is very nice,” he said.

Another birthday boy, in his 30s, who wished to be identified as Khoo, could not hide his glee when told that he could enter the park for free.

He proceeded to happily tell those around him that it was his birthday that day.

The 12 were later invited on stage to cut a cake in the form of the Jalur Gemilang with other theme park visitors born in the month of August.

Lin Hui Ting, 20, from Sitiawan, was among the latter who was invited to join in the cake cutting ceremony.

“Although I did not get to enter the park for free, I did get to cut a birthday cake with others whose birthdays were also in August and that is sufficient for me,” she said.

A mini Merdeka parade made up of 50 theme park staff members and two horses and a pony draped in the Jalur Gemilang followed.

Lost World of Tambun general manager Calvin Ho said it was the first time the park had held a birthday bash for its visitors .

“We are doing our part to instil patriotism in Malaysians,” he said.
