For younger-looking eyes

An eye concentrate addresses around-the-eyes issues of Asian consumers, writes Nadia Badarudin

BESIDES weight, another issue that may be of major concern for most women is skin. The delicate eye area, saggy bags, fine lines and tired-looking eyes are the common topics often discussed.

The constant search for the right product which can treat problems and give youthful-looking eyes is neverending.

ASIAN SKIN

The Body Shop International Skincare expert Dave English says understanding the type of skin, particularly that around the eye, is important before using any product.

He says that over time, the elongated eye shape of most Asians makes the skin sag more than Caucasian eyes.

He says Asian skin tends to be oily, is prone to moisture loss and has a higher level of collagen, leading to denser and thicker skin. This delays the signs of ageing but it also reduces the absorption of substances applied onto the skin.

Because of these, it is important for Asians to use a lightweight product with maximum moisturising and eye-lifting benefits.

“Applying the product onto the skin with the proper massaging technique also helps,” he adds.

DROPS OF YOUTH

English says The Body Shop’s latest product, Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate can help address this issue for Asian consumers.

It is enriched with the stem cells of edelweiss, a rare flower that grows in the the Alps and is known for its regeneration properties and natural defence against harsh weather.

“Edelweiss was the first thing that came to mind when we did the research. It’s a protected species, so we extracted only a microscopic amount of the plant tissue and stimulated it to produce a regenerative bio-active which can aid skin renewal,” he says.

“The plant stem cells have been infused into Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate to make the eyes look lifted, younger-looking and wide open.”

The eye concentrate contains cassava extract to help firm the eyelid and an extract of the European ash tree which can help reduce eye bags.

Sodium hyaluronate, sourced naturally from a bioblend of wheat and beetroot, provides sustained moisture retention, to firm and smoothen skin.

The product also contains organic babassu oil, pressed from wild-growing babassu nuts in Brazil. It’s non-greasy, moisturises and helps Drops Of Youth glide smoothly on the skin.

ROLL IT AWAY

The product texture is very light and suitable for all climates. It has a roller ball with pump, designed to provide a soothing and refreshing, anti-fatigue effects. The pump delivers a richer texture and precise application every time.

English says eye bags are the result of liquid retained under the skin. To move the pooled liquid, a gentle massage around the delicate eye area should be done.

“The roller ball comes in handy to do gently massage around the area. We recommend using the figure 8 motion to apply. It stimulates blood flow to the delicate eye area and moves the settled liquids,” he says.

The concentrate is recommended for use twice daily after normal skincare routine. It can be used either as a standalone or to complement eye cream.

Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate (RM119) is best used with Drops Of Youth Concentrate for a youth-enhancing skincare regime. The concentrate is priced at RM129 (30ml) and RM189 (50ml).
