MH17: Winter wear will be provided for M'sian team if necessary

GEORGE TOWN: The government will provide necessary winter gear if the Malaysian team heading to the MH17 flight crash site in eastern Ukraine arrives during winter..

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Liow Tiong Lai said it would also provide other paraphernalia required besides thermal wear to deal with harsh winter conditions.

“Our experts, Department of Civil Aviations officers and engineers entering the site will be well equipped.

"The weather is an important key factor to look into and we have to ensure proper equipment and we will do just that,” he said after launching the Penang MCA annual convention at the TAR College in Tanjung Bungah here today.

On another note, Liow said the search team was working hard to ensure the remains of seven other Malaysian will be repatriated soon.

Presently, Malaysia has 50 members stationed in Kiev and are awaiting for a green light from Ukrainian and separatist forces to enter the site.

Malaysia, together with Australia and Dutch investigators are hoping to enter the crash site before winter before the area is covered with snow.
