Former Umno branch leader charged for trespassing

GEORGE TOWN: A former Kampung Rawana Umno branch youth chief was hauled to the magistrate's court today to face a charge of trespassing into the Penang State Legislative Assembly building in May.

Wan Norazman Ariffin, 41, claimed trial to committing the offence with 15 others who have been charged previously, at the building on Lebuh Light, with the intention to cause distress to state assembly secretary M. Maheswari, about 1.30pm on May 21.

The offence, under Section 448 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum three years' jail, maximum RM5,000 fine or both.

Magistrate L. Umma Devi set bail for Wan Norazman at RM2,000 in one surety, and fixed Sept 29 for mention of the case before magistrate Nurulrasyidah Mohd Akit, simultaneously with the other 15 accused.

The accused was represented by Rosli Ismail, Yusnita Yusof and Norhardi Haron, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Fatimah Talib prosecuted.
