Google unveils Malaysia Day doodle

KUALA LUMPUR: Google today unveiled its special Malaysia Day doodle on its website in conjunction with the 51st Malaysia Day celebration.

The doodle titled “Beauty of Malaysia” was designed by 16-year-old Lee Yee Run of SMJK (C) Yoke Kuan in Sekinchan, Selangor.

Lee, who beat three other contestants, won the grand prize of Doodle 4 Google competition along with the 16-17 age category, said many people are caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, missing out on the beauty of our country.

“Let's step out of the box, travel to attractive spots, discover and embrace the true and unique colours of Malaysia,” he added.

The competition, themed “Malaysia to me is…” was launched in April in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014 and was opened to all Malaysian primary and secondary schools.

The other Doodle 4 Google category winners were: Vaisnawi Harulnathan of SJK (T) Vallambrosa, Klang (Age 7-9); Chin Joe Yi of SJK (C) Kwang Hwa, Penang (Age 10-12); and, Mohammed Anoof Ibrahim of Mutiara International Grammar School, Ampang (Age 13-15).

Google is famous for its doodles, which are spontaneous changes made to the Google logo and are usually instant hits among Netizens. Doodles are aimed at celebrating holidays and anniversaries, as well as remembering famous artists, pioneers and scientists who have helped shaped history.

Most Google doodles are created internally by Google’s doodle team, but occasionally the company makes special exceptions and runs competitions.
