CIMB, IJN help heart patients

YANGON: CIMB Bank, in partnership with the National Heart Institute of Malaysia (IJN), announced its sponsorship of surgeries for seven young patients with critical heart conditions at Yankin Children Hospital here recently.

The US$15,000 (RM48,450) sponsorship covers the cost of heart surgeries and the Malaysian medical team’s expenses.

CIMB Group Acting Chief Executive Tengku Datuk Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, IJN chief executive officer Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub, and Medical Superintendent of Yankin Children Hospital Dr Aung Myint Lwin were present at the handing over of the sponsorship recently.

“As an Asean bank with a ‘multi-local’ approach, giving back to the communities that we operate in is something we believe in. We’ve been in Myanmar for 20 years and in our search for a good cause to support, we are humbled to be given the opportunity to partner with IJN in helping Yankin Children Hospital. As we continue to grow in Myanmar, we look forward to strengthening our ties with the communities here through various initiatives,” said Tengku Zafrul.

Seven paediatric patients, aged between 4 and 16, successfully underwent congenital heart operations at the hospital.

Consultant paediatric cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Sivakumar Sivalingam and senior perfusionist Fathil Adzim, both from IJN, led the surgeries, with assistance from chief surgeon Dr Win Win Kyaw and her team at the hospital.

“It has been an overwhelming experience for us to share our medical expertise with the team at Yankin Children Hospital, and with CIMB Bank on board to fund operations, we are happy to see that our collaboration has given these children and their families a healthier and brighter future,” said Dr Azhari.
