OMC sets mood for food and music

JOHOR BARU: A FAMILY-ORIENTED café with a cosy and relaxing ambiance will definitely lighten the mood for food and music lovers at the Olive Musicafe (OMC) here.

Having a satisfying meal with family or friends while being entertained by live band performances makes it a perfect venue to wind down after a hectic week.

Olive Musicafe is a family business that was started by Megat Firuz Ismail, 38, his brother, Megat Faiz Ismail, 24, and their childhood friend, Arif Rahman Zakaria, 28, about three months ago.

“The cafe’s concept is to fuse the music into one’s dining experience as we know music can play a big role in setting and changing one’s mood as well as enhancing the ambience.

““Our mother loves to cook and is a great chef.

“We have opened several restaurants before.

“That is why we have incorporated some of her secret recipes into our dishes here and will be doing more of that in the future,” said Megat Firuz.

To inject a different and unique element to the cafe, it uses black vinyl records as plate covers and compact discs as cup saucers which are able to withstand heat.

It also goes in line with the music concept OMC strongly feels about.

Some of the most sought-after dishes on the menu are chicken chop, beef lasagna and ‘laksa Johor,’ apart from their must-try desserts, such as cheese cake, chocolate mousse and mango jelly.

As part of their efforts to provide good service delivery at the café, diners can have what they desire using an electronic ordering application system on tablets provided.

“By using this application, we can avoid human errors and make the ordering process more systematic.

“Everything is recorded and with one click.

“The orders will be sent to the kitchen, baristas and cashier right away,” said Megat Faiz.

Firuz said the outlet had four sections — smoking area, non-smoking area, mezzanine area and also the open area with the capacity of 100 pax.

“We are looking for talented people to perform at our café.

“We have a stage, musical instruments and also audio system in place.

“We welcome musicians, be it a solo performer or a five-piece band. Those interested can drop by for an audition,” said Megat Firuz.

The cafe employs 12 staff, some of whom are fresh graduates from Kolej Komuniti Selayang, who were given a chance to gain working experience here.

OCM also caters to birthday parties or special occasions or events which is handled by its cafe manager, Mohd Asyraf Abu Bakar.

The place is opened from 5pm to 12am daily, except Thursdays. The cafe is located at 5-01 & 6-01, Jalan Kolam Ayer 1, Nong Chik Heights Commercial Centre, Johor Baru.
