BN assures Pengkalan Kubor constituents of special attention: Mustapa

TUMPAT: The Barisan Nasional (BN) has assured Pengkalan Kubor constituents of special attention if the coalition retains the seat in the by-election on Sept 25.

The BN director for the by-election, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said the assurance was given on the basis that the state constituency held ‘sentimental value’ for him.

He said he had been close to the late Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar who was the state assemblyman for three terms, the State Umno Liaison Committee secretary and later the deputy chairman.

“The BN wants to resolve a few pending matters in Pengkalan Kubor, such as housing and drainage,” he told reporters at the Tumpat office of the Department of National Unity and Integration here today.

Mustapa, who is the Minister of International Trade and Industry, said the by-election campaign was running smoothly.

The by-election is a three-cornered contest among Mat Razi Mat Ail (rpt) Ail of the BN, Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim of PAS and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.

It is being held following the death of Noor Zahidi on Aug 20.

Noor Zahidi had retained the seat in the general election held last year with a majority of 1,736 votes, beating Saharun Ibrahim of PKR and Izat Bukhary.
