#NSTviral: Rude comment gets netizens' attention

KUALA LUMPUR: Good manners and politeness should be values instilled in every person.

However, the same cannot be said about a netizen who rudely commented on a Johor-based nasi lemak restaurant's Facebook post recently.

The restaurant's post featuring a picture of its famous nasi lemak dish had received 861k views, but what caught the eyes of netizens was the exchange between the said netizen and the Facebook page admin.

The user had commented, "The only Malaysian words I know are bodoh! Bab*."

Bodoh is a term loosely translated as "stupid", while "Bab*" refers to "pig".

It's unclear if the commenter is a foreigner or a local, as his Facebook page didn't reveal any information.

The comment resulted in the admin asking if the netizen had an issue, and if there was a problem, to please refrain from using rude language, as it would only bring shame to the commenter.

The restaurant added that it had no issue with people commenting but would advise using proper language. It said that the restaurant accepts feedback with an open heart no matter how harsh it may be, but as Malaysians, we should be polite.

Siding with the restaurant were netizens who advised the owner not to be taken aback by the negative comments.

Facebook user Airuan Othman, said even though it didn't matter if we were Malaysian or not, we should learn the culture of other countries and respect each other no matter what.

Maz Akmar noted that there were many cyberbullies who would use derogatory remarks as they pleased.

Another user, Pemburu Bayang, asked the owner to forgive the rude comments, as the netizen's command of the local language might be poor.
