Pas leaders at loggerheads over MB issue

BATU PAHAT: The differences among Pas leadership on the Selangor menteri besar issue have come out in the open at its muktamar (annual general meeting), near here, yesterday.

As news spread via social media that a new menteri besar will be sworn in before the sultan of Selangor next Tuesday, Pas leaders at the muktamar gave conflicting statements.

Party secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali, who has been Pas’ leading spokesman on the issue, said all parties must accept the sultan’s decision on who will be the new MB.

Responding to the possibility that a Pas assemblyman might be chosen for the post, he said once the sultan had made his decision, all parties must accept it.

Despite Mustafa’s statement, Pas deputy president Mohamad Sabu later insisted that the party would reject the post should the sultan pick a Pas assemblyman.

“The post belongs to PKR and we will reject the appointment. We still hold to the decision made (by the Pas central committee) during the Sept 7 meeting.”

Mohamad is known to be supportive of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s move to name his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as the new Selangor menteri besar.
