Ranhill Bersekutu eyes partnerships in China

NANNING (China): Ranhill Bersekutu Sdn Bhd, a leading Malaysian engineering company, expects to establish partnerships with Chinese firms to cooperate in the infrastructure industry in China.

The company, set up in 1973, has received some 50 enquiries from Chinese firms at the four-day 11th China-Asean Expo (Caexpo) here which began on September 16.

Ranhill Bersekutu chief executive officer Yap Yuen Thye said the company aims to tie up with Chinese firms in power plant, bridge, railway, water supply, wastewater and drainage projects, among others.

“Currently, we have received some 50 enquiries from Chinese companies, and we are in discussions with them to create partnerships to bring in green technology to the country,” he told Malaysian journalists here today.

As a first-timer at the Caexpo, Yao said he hoped the first deal could be signed next year given that the opportunities already exist in the country.

Ranhill Bersekutu has been involved in a diverse and comprehensive range of projects and has engineered close to 2,000 projects covering feasibility studies, conceptual design, construction management, project management and auditing.

Significant engineering projects which have been undertaken include telecommunications, coastal engineering, flood mitigation, hotels, resorts, environmental-impact assessment (EIA) and high-rise offices.

A total of 126 Malaysian companies, 40 per cent of which are first-timers, and 11 government agencies led by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation are taking part in the expo.-- Bernama
