Not Lin Dan, please

THE Malaysian badminton camp are waiting with bated breath for the release of the Asian Games individual draw tomorrow.

China’s men’s singles champion Lin Dan is likely to be unseeded and will be a dangerous floater in the draw everyone will want to avoid in the early rounds, including World No 1 Lee Chong Wei.

Chong Wei will be seeded first and new world champion Chen Long of China seeded second.

Lin Dan has beaten Chong Wei five teams in major tournament finals including at the Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010.

Chong Wei will not meet Lin Dan in the team event if, as expected, Malaysia and China clash in the semi-finals as the latter will play second singles.

Malaysia open their men’s team campaign today in the quarter-finals at the Gyeyang Gymnasium against Nepal, who defeated Macau 3-0 in the first round yesterday.

The women’s team bowed out in the quarter-finals yesterday after a 3-0 defeat by Uber Cup holders and defending champions China.

London Olympic singles champion Li Xuerui routed Tee Jing Yi 21-9, 21-8 before Olympic doubles champion Zhou Yunlei-Tian Qing overcame initial resistance from scratch pair Vivian Hoo-Ng Hui Lin to win 21-18, 21-8.

Defending Asian Games singles champion Wang Shixian wrapped up the tie by beating Yang Li Lian 21-15, 22-20.

Earlier, Malaysia routed Nepal 3-0 in the first round to reach the last-eight.
