An eatery with the classic feel

PETALING JAYA: THE Swag Bar and Grill at the PJ Palm Sports Centre at 1, Lorong Sultan, here is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of one of the busiest areas, pulling in good crowds due to its relaxed atmosphere.

One can either savour a good meal in an evening outing on the ground floor which has a setting for fine dining or take a seat on the first floor which has a more casual ambience with its tall slim looking chairs, round tables as well as the normal sofa sized chairs. The seating arrangement for both floors can accommodate about 80 patrons at one go.

Small colourful and framed pictures with a modernist touch adorn the wall on the ground floor of the outlet. It gives an intimate and privileged setting that courting couples look for. On top of that, patrons will also be greeted by well-attired and courteous staff to serve one’s culinary needs.

Outlet general manager Sudip Thiagi said the restaurant was designed in such a way to ensure everyone feels welcomed.

Sudip added that his sister and her husband, both architects, had helped him design the place.

“Except for the lighting, most of the things here are handmade to give that classic feel,” said Sudip.

The furniture, he added, was specially ordered from the Philippines.

Speaking of his venture, Sudip, who holds an MBA and a degree in IT studies, said he loves to cook and as such, he felt the need to share his family’s mouthwatering recipes with everyone.

Inspired by his stepmother, Sudip said she is good cook who used to run a restaurant 20 years ago. Though retired, she still cooks for private functions.

“The Swag Bar and Grill is a dream come true for me and those who love a good meal will definitely have a good time here,” he said.

Among the food items served at his outlet are steaks, spicy barbecued lambs and burgers.

Sudip said that all food items are prepared then and there in the outlet itself, including the burger patties.

On how he gets ideas for the menu, Sudip said most of them come from his family.

“And I have three chefs from Bangladesh to help me out to prepare the food,” he said.

To ensure that his restaurant does not get too crowded, Sudip has converted the balcony into a dining area as well.

The balcony overlooks a large swimming pool and the skyline of the Amcorp Mall and beyond.

“There is also a space for deejays to come here to entertain my customers,” he said.

The Swag Bar and Grill opens at 4pm onwards from Tuesdays to Sundays.
