PDRM allocates RM3.6mil as cost for Pengkalan Kubor by-election

TUMPAT: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has allocated RM3.6 million for operational cost during the Pengkalan Kubor state seat by-election.

Bukit Aman Logistics Department Director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said the cost included logistics provision, communication facilities and basic amenities.

"This is to ensure that our staff are comfortable during the time they are on duty and ever ready to face any situation.

"Besides transportation and other equipment, communication facilities are among the most important requirements to ensure information and complaints are received well and fast," he told reporters at the Marine Operations Force Tactical Base here today.

He said the police had also increased the assets at the Malaysia-Thailand border to boost security there.

"We have also increased our patrols to ensure the situation is under control," he said.

He also advised the public to get police confirmation if they received rumours through the social media such as Facebook, twitter or Whatsapps.

"There are many things being sent on these media and consumers should get confirmation from us," he said.

The by-election is being held following the death of its incumbent from Barisan Nasional (BN) Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar on Aug 20.

Set for this Thursday, the by-election sees a three-cornered fight between BN's Mat Razi Mat Ail, PAS candidate Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim and Independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary. - Bernama
