Unanimous endorsement belies discontent in PKR

PETALING JAYA: Despite what appeared to be a unanimous endorsement by PKR’s leaders on the appointment of deputy president Mohammad Azmin Ali as the new Selangor Menteri Besar, there was an indication that not all had gone down smoothly with the party leadership.

Party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in her statement tonight said she was of the opinion that Azmin’s appointment was not done according to the state constitution.

“Eventhough I believe this nomination did not adhere to the state constitution, the focus (now) needs to return to caring for the Selangor people.”

“Hence, I have given my opinions to the party on several programmes which must be done to preserve the wellbeing of the people.”

Dr Wan Azizah said she had withdrawn herself as the nominee for the MB post following Azmin’s appointment.

“I had suggested to the central executive committee to accept Azmin as the candidate for the post,” she said.

She said she made this decision for the sake of the Selangor people as the leadership crisis needed to be resolved immediately.

“I accept the decision made by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on the appointment of Azmin as the new MB from PKR with an open heart ,” she said.
