Khalid given a rousing send-off

SHAH ALAM: OUTGOING Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was given a rousing send-off at his farewell ceremony by some 1,000 civil servants who thronged the lobby of the state secretariat building despite a short notice to bid him goodbye on his last day as the chief executive of state.

The crowd gave rousing and deafening cheers as he appeared at the lobby at 4.20pm after several exit media interviews. It took him 10 minutes to shake hands and wade through the sizeable crowd to reach the microphone set up for his farewell speech.

State Secretary Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi thanked Khalid for his clear policies and transparency.

“Khalid is a menteri besar that has made transformation in Selangor. I have worked with him for four years and I feel totally at ease because (he ensured) there is no political interference.”

Selangor Pas commisioner Iskandar Abdul Samad has nothing but praises for his former boss.

“He’s one of the best (menteri
besar) Selangor has ever had and I will definitely miss working with him. “I hope the next menteri besar can continue the state’s excellent record. He (Khalid) has set a high standard and whoever becomes the next MB will have to meet the benchmark as well as the high expectations from Selangorians.”

On speculation that he will be appointed deputy menteri besar, Iskandar said he had not heard anything about it adding that he would heed the decision of Pas leadership if he was appointed as one.
