KL shares remain positive mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained in positive territory at mid-morning lifted by gains in selected heavyweights as bargain-hunters beat profit-takers.

As at 11.04am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.63 points higher at 1,841.82 points.

Hong Leong Financial Group and British American Tobacco surged 32 sen each to RM17.71 and RM69.30, respectively.

Market breadth was positive as gainers outpaced losers 304 to 297, while 285 counters were unchanged, 742 untraded and 17 others suspended. Volume was at 902.88 million shares worth RM511.69 million.

Other heavyweights, Maybank added 6.0 sen to RM10.10, Axiata gained 1.0 sen to RM6.97 while Public Bank and Tenaga Nasional were flat at RM19 and RM21.28, respectively.

Among actives, Globaltech Formation was pegged at 9.5 sen while Ni Hsin appreciated half-a-sen to 51.5 sen.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index edged up 37.04 points to 17,296.32 points, the Industrial Index rose 10.78 points to 3,195.74 points, FBM Emas Shariah inched up 9.59 points to 13,144.86 points while the Plantation Index lost 19.52 points to 8,357.43 points.

The FBM Emas Index was 10.83 points better at 12,890.5 points, the FBM 70 increased 11.37 points to 14,244.46, the FBMT100 Index appreciated 10.79 points to 12,470.64 points.

The FBM ACE, however, erased 51.98 points to 7,334.81 points.-- Bernama
