Longer delivery time for Perodua Axia

KUALA LUMPUR: The delivery of Perodua Axia will be slightly longer than previously anticipated due to the overwhelming response from the market.

The recently launched Perodua Axia has received 20,000 orders since it was open for booking on August 15.

"We are humbled by the response shown by the general public to our latest offering and we wish to assure our customers that we are doing everything possible to deliver the vehicles within a reasonable period," president and chief executive officer, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said in a statement.

He added that Perodua is currently discussing with its vendors on how best to meet the high demand.

The Perodua Axia is produced at Perodua's new manufacturing plant -- Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, which started mass production of the model early this month.

The Perodua Global Manufacturing can potentially produce 100,000 vehicles per annum on a one-shift cycle and has a high automation rate of 75 per cent.

The Perodua Axia is the first energy efficient vehicle model made by a Malaysian company with support from its partner, Daihatsu Motor Company of Japan.-- Bernama
