The country’s high-spending population has grown over the years, with the emergence of more and more self-made millionaires, entrepreneurs and first-time travellers, said Worldspan Travel executive director Peter Lee.
“Despite a tight economy, we see an increase in Malaysians spending on luxury tourism. With this rebranding exercise, we are confident we will emerge as a strong lifestyle travel player in the luxury tourism market,” said Lee at the launch of the company’s new office last week.

Recently, Worldspan rebranded itself as a lifestyle travel agency for vacations that redefine luxury, with the opening of its new office in Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. But its expansion into the luxury sector stemmed from a change in management in 2012.
Lee added that while the bulk of his company’s business is derived from corporate travel, the company is already catering for high-end lifestyle travel by as much as 20 per cent.
“This figure is growing amid the popularity of online booking via travel apps. We believe our forte lies in our human capital, as we are able to offer personalised itineraries designed to suit our clients,” said Peter adding that the company has invested RM500,000 to achieve this objective.
Among the luxury packages it offers are to exotic places such as Morocco, Bhutan, Greece and Dubai. Apart from luxury travel, Worldspan Travel also specialises in affordable, responsible travel, wildlife holidays and activity-tailored holidays.
