Kelantan risk M-League exclusion

KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan find themselves on the brink of exclusion from the 2024-25 M-League after failing to secure a national licence.

The First Instance Body (FIB) has set a deadline of Jan 8 for Kelantan to appeal, potentially allowing their reinstatement in the league.

"It was decided after an online meeting on Sunday that Kelantan had failed to obtain a national licence. With that, the club will not compete in the 2024-25 M-League season," FIB chairman Sheikh Nasir Sheikh Sharif.

"The club did not meet financial obligations related to salary arrears and contributions to statutory bodies."

Despite an extension granted for the first set of obligations, Kelantan failed to provide satisfactory proof of payment, leading to further complications.

Nasir explained the timeline of events, including fines, transfer bans, and ongoing Fifa cases against Kelantan.

The club has until Jan 8 to appeal the FIB's decision, providing a narrow window for potential reinstatement.

The Red Warriors won only two of their 26 Super League matches and conceded 121 goals.
