Players facing a test of their stamina

KUALA LUMPUR: The 42nd Selangor Amateur Open Golf will be played at the challenging Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia from Sept 30-Oct 2.

Contested in stroke play format, the men’s championship is a stern test of stamina as it will be played over 54 holes.

To be eligible for the men’s category, players must possess a maximum handicap of 12 (USGA handicap index of 10.3).

For the ladies category, players must possess a maximum club handicap of 18 (USGA handicap index of 15.4).

Handicap must be current at the time of entry. Players will compete in gross and net categories.

The Selangor Amateur Open has always been regarded as one of the biggies in the amateur golf circuit.

It is one of the local amateur championships included in the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Through the years, the tournament has always been regarded as a premier tournament in Selangor and well received and participated by both men and women golfers from Malaysia and the neighbouring Asean countries.

Participants in this championship will be vying for the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Sultan Hishamuddin Aziz Alam Shah trophy in the men’s category and the Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Tunku Besar Burhanuddin trophy in the ladies’ category.

The immediate past winners are Jerome Ng (Men) of Singapore and Michelle Koh (Ladies) from MGA.

The list of previous champions comprises many illustrious names who have gone on to make a name for themselves in professional golf.

Among them are Danny Chia, R. Nachimuthu, Mohd Paisal Bee, Rahizam Ramli, Airil Rizman, Lim Eng Seng, Mohd Shaaban Husin, Mohd Sukree Othman and Kenneth Christian De Silva for the Men and Lim Ai Lian, Lim Siew Ai and Aretha Pan for the Ladies.
