KL shares mixed mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were mixed at mid-afternoon today amid tensions in Hong Kong, dealers said.

At 3pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 6.85 points higher at 1,853.2 after opening 1.78 points lower at 1,844.56.

However, market breadth was negative as losers led gainers by 383 to 321 with 341 counters unchanged, 578 untraded and 32 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.73 billion shares worth RM1.23 billion.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index increased 34.799 points to 17,299.35, Plantation Index rose 11.29 points to 8,409.09 and the Industrial Index advanced 6.85 points to 3,216.43.

The FBM Emas Index gained 32.84 points for 12,960.66 and the FBMT100 Index increased 34.44 points to 12,542.7.

The FBM Ace slipped 2.38 points to 7,287.66 and the FBM 70 dropped 6.02 points to 14,308.54.

Among actives, Malayan United Industries gained 2.5 sen to 35 sen, Asia Bioenergy fell 1.5 sen to 57.5 sen and Berjaya Corp fell one sen to 57.5 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank rose 10 sen to RM9.99, Public Bank fell two sen to RM18.88 and Tenaga Nasional gained eight sen to RM12.36.-- Bernama
