JCorp takes over land for housing project

JOHOR BARUTHE takeover process of the former Tebrau Camp land to facilitate an affordable housing project is expected to be completed within a year.

Johor Corp (JCorp) president and chief executive officer Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said the company had been given the responsibility by the state government to develop the 155ha site.

However, he said that his company would carry out a detailed study before commencing with the housing project.

“The state government is helping us in the takeover. We have also been tasked with finding solutions to various issues from the acquisition such as the squatters.

“Once all issues are resolved, we will develop affordable housing and other suitable commercial projects to accommodate the residents living in the area,” said Kamaruzzaman after attending the Qurban and Aqiqah event at Masjid An-Nur in Bandar Pasir Gudang here.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin had previously said the state government would take over the site of the former Tebrau Camp for the development of affordable and low cost housing.

Khaled had also tasked JCorp to takeover the land and directed the company to submit suggestions and plans on the development project.

Kamaruzzaman said the land acquisition is in line with the state government’s initiative to identify new locations for the development of affordable and low-cost housing for Johoreans.
